It Ain't A Typo

Eyjafjallajokull -- I was scanning the Yahoo homepage a while ago when I encountered this string of jumbled letters (rabbit ears attached). I thought it was a typo since it's a nonexistent English word, but when I clicked on it I got results about a volcano in Iceland. YES, I know about the volcano (in Iceland! Gah) but I had no idea it has this...weird name. Oh, ignorance, you got me again.

As most of you might already know, this introverted 700,000-year-old volcano spew out its guts lastweek, leaving thousands of passengers stranded in Europe. What's scarier is that the volcano can erupt again anytime soon, forming dust clouds and flinging out minute sharp glass particles.

It was around November to December 2009 when the seismic activity underneath Iceland started. The series of volcanic eruptions started in March 2010, then in April 10, Eyjafjallajokull spit out enormous dust clouds that disrupted flights.

This eruption couldn't have happened if the climate hasn't been acting crazy these past years. And unfortunately, during the past eruptions of Eyjafjallajokull, there were always chain reactions resulting in its larger neighbor, Katla, being active.

So before anything else happens, we might as well start going green.
