She had no reason but ever since she could
remember she had always decided not to marry. Sitting in front of her were her
parents, enjoying the last few bites of their dinner. It was the eve of their
fortieth wedding anniversary and they already well past the age of romance, yet
she found them in genuine contentment with each other’s company; they were
still using the same endearments that they used twenty years ago. The image of
them had not changed: her parents still loved each other and she was still
alone on the opposite side of the table.
