Hahaha. Soon I shall be in the picture |
How do I feel right now?
Yesterday was pretty much a pivotal day. The first two batches of University of the Philippines-hopefuls took the UPCAT exam (I was among them), and right now...the last batch is doing so too.
What can I say about the exam, though? I have to admit, if you still retain the lessons you had in your previous high school years, you'll do fine. Great, even. Most of the items in the Math test included elementary algebra, geometry and trig. Nothing complex, but nothing too simple either. Of course, if you've forgotten how to simplify polynomials, get the area when given the perimeter or vice-versa, and use your sine, cosine and tangent functions...you'll end up using a lot of time in a single number and panic through the remaining time because you were being insistent on that number. LOL.
The science subtest included second-year biology, like taxonomy, some very basic chemistry, and earth science. It was a really good thing I paid considerable attention to our ES class three years ago, or else I would have been screwed big time.
English...Apparently, this was my favorite part of the test. I was smiling all the while because it had interesting questions. Some of the selections were quite entertaining, so at least I was able to relax while reading them. If you're a Grammar Nazi/bookworm, you won't have any problem.
And Filipino was...well, it was easier than I expected. I was ecstatic because, for the first time, I actually understood the language well. Not much vocabulary; it was more on choosing the right words for the sentences. So, yes, I managed to finish the test without flooding the auditorium with tears of frustration.
You'd better watch out for the reading comprehension subtest though. You have to be a fast-reader. Or you could stick with reading only the first paragraph and skim through the rest of the passage. Anyway, although you've really read the selection, you still have to go back to it when you answer the questions. (It's not like you can retain all the information, right?)
AHH. I really hope we all did well in the test. (Results will come out February; you can check the UPCAT webpage for updates)
PS. The timeline of lessons is based on my school's curriculum.
