No, really?! Because she said...

Almost three days ago, one of my friends sent me this text message:

BBC FLASHNEWS:
Japan govt cnfirms radiation leak at fukushima nuclear plants. Asian countries should take necessary precautions. Remain indoors first24hrs. Close doors n windows. Swab neck skin with Betadine where thyroid area is, radiation hits thyroid first. Take extra precaution, radiation may hit phi--

Faulty network services cut off the message, but I didn't need to read further to classify this as some dimwit's attempt at making an annoyingly crude joke. Obviously the text is a scam, like many other warning messages that once swarmed the logical atmosphere. I heard that one school fell for the joke. The students actually wiped povidone-iodine onto their necks and isolated themselves inside the made-up safety of their classrooms. I'm not sure whether I should be furious with the arschloch who composed the text, or be disappointed with everyone else's (including my) gullible tendencies.

Oh, and here's the interesting catch: Filipinos rank numero uno in the list of gullible races.

The Harvard Institute of Socio-Political Progression (a mouthful! Argh.) scanned 300 societies and evaluated them using what they call The Gump Index. This includes the lifespan and average educational attainment of the society. How do you think we Filipinos fared? 1,344,399 points, baby!

(Because I want to defend the country from possible racist gang wars, I have to say Trojans would have pushed us to second place if they were still alive. Unfortunately, they aren't, so my efforts of attempted nationalism are put to waste as we speak.)

Do you think you're a cut above the rest? Do you think you're not susceptible to falling into ludicrous messages/phone calls/pen pals? Filipino blood has a characteristic twang-- one enabling us to be too trusting towards other people. Well, that makes us saints but...

PS!

Everyone, please pray for Japan. I know you think they probably deserve all the earthquakes and tsunamis (the inhabitants of Taiji, more specifically) but they're still people and they deserve our help. (Spoken like a true Japanoid, yeah. I'm cool like that.)
