Talent No. 19837473

I've always been under the delusion that I am a good cook. I use the term cook generically; basically whatever needs heat is already something I assume a cook makes. And since I'm running out of academic rubbish to write about (I kid) I am going to share a "recipe" (again, generic term) I made seconds ago: cafe au lait et miel!

This is, of course, my stuck up way of saying coffee with milk and honey. By the way, cafe latte and cafe au lait are technically different, although they both translate to "coffee with milk." Cafe latte is made with espresso (in a 1:2 ratio with milk) while cafe au lait is made with, well, plain old coffee (1:1 ratio with milk).

This mayhem started when I found a French press in the decades-old cupboard in the kitchen. What better to do than play with it?

1. Since we're using a French press, it is wiser to heat water before you think of opening that can of ground coffee.
Pressing things before it was cool

2. One tablespoon of ground coffee (I used Colombian medium-dark coffee) is enough for one cup. Make sure you scoop the coffee into the French press before you add the water. Otherwise it won't mix well.

3. Place the lid on, but don't push the plunger. Let it steam for at least three minutes and, when most of the coffee has settled on the bottom, push the plunger down.

4. Pour the coffee until you reach about half of the glass.

5. Add one tbsp honey. This should be done before you add the milk to ensure the honey will mix thoroughly (since the coffee is still hot.) And if you want to experience what an insulin injection feels like, you can always add some more. Sugar works too.

6. Add the milk. (Again: 1:1 ratio.) If you're lactose intolerant, I don't have any alternative for you. I'm sorry. Then again, you should have been warned when you read the first paragraph.

Now I have a fallback in case college doesn't work out.

Money Can Buy Happiness

Ice Cream Man also gave a cone, free of charge.

For all the cheapskate tourists who visit the Philippines for charity work-- this is the ultimate dessert. It's ice cream but we call it sorbetes, which is Spanish for sherbet.

Greeting + Diet trivia

Happy 143rd day of the year! Summer does things to people, and among those is inject an overdose of that corny lovestruck feeling you get when you find out it is a relatively significant day.

Just a quick update: I have two weeks-- two mother firetruckin' weeks-- until the first day of classes. One part of my tiny heart is depressed; still, the other is doing jumping jacks in excitement. In fact, that tiny part of my tiny heart has been foxtrotting for so long now that I gave in and bought a fresh stock of school supplies (sponsored by my ever-supportive brother! Thanks dude!)

While walking around the bookstore pretending to look smart, I found this in one of the self-help shelves:

Unhealthy Living, Nom and Tumblr Goodie

I've been blabbering about this for the past monthh, but I'm off to college in at least three weeks. Three weeks, and the catch? The campus is located in the wonderful municipality of Miag-ao, where the fast food chain population density is practically zero.

Late Summer Foodcast

My life, or lack thereof, has seemed to take on a more productive course this summer. Because I failed to find a summer job (a friend and I were planning on asking to work in a cafe cum library my brother's acquaintance owns. When we got there, our gluttonous alter-egos got the better of us and we ended up fulfilling our greed, not our would-have-been paychecks) I am spending most of my vacation days doing either "paperwork" or nothing.

Get Fat and Braid Your Hair

Four days ago, my best friend arrived from Palawan and she bought me these amazing crinkles:

I apologize for the crappy photo quality. I took these with my phone, after all.

Anyhow, as I've said in one of my earlier posts, I've lost a lot of weight recently. Fortunately, the wounds inside my mouth have healed a bit, so I can slowly go back to eating healthily again! I'm thrilled. One more week and this will all be over. Nom-nom. I can't wait to eat Italian again.

Also, minutes ago, I tried fishtail-braiding my hair (I recommend bebexo's video on YouTube)
The fruit of my labor:

It doesn't look convincing. My smile doesn't compensate for that either.

On the Menu: Watermelon Milkshake and Strawberry-flavored Oatmeal

I had my upper set of braces put on almost a week ago and now I feel like a bombshell, the inanimate kind, about to explode with all the verbiage my mouth has failed to let out the past week. It feels like hell has been compacted into a single set of dental bling and I can't talk because the insides of my mouth keep on getting torn by the brackets.
