Life Update

because iOS 7 is out and it looks a bit like the Android interface. S'okay, no hate.

I am moving back to the Charity House today because the academic year has begun. Consequently, I will not be able to update as much as I had these last two months, but I will try my very best to do so. On the lighter side of things, I will probably have more to write about; the year looks pregnant with potential experiences. Also I will stop the personal posts because I love my blog and the people who actually try to read what I have to write.

So here is a picture of a baby sloth:

I finally bought a new rim of heavy paper so I can start painting again!

Begin Again, Never Give Up

is what an upperclassman from my university put in his entry to a shirt design contest held by a local clothing line two (or three) years ago. The design won. Upon seeing it (in material) for the first time, I felt an impassive air pass between me and the shirt; it took me two years to understand how brilliant it is.

She Lives

If only this came with a "Dress for the future" edition
I have been constantly complaining about how awful last school year was for me. In both semesters, I earned the lowest grade average in my entire academic life and had to take removal exams (yes, in both semesters, one for advanced Calculus and the other for organic chemistry). Anyone of you who knew me in elementary and/or high school will find this hard to believe; I am not being conceited, but I was always one of the better, if not the best, students. I say this with basis.

When one graduates from my high school, he or she is expected to take a science-related course in college and enter the workforce as a contributor to the technological and physical development of the country, since my high school is a semi-public school for the sciences. I always had high marks in science and math during grade school so I thought studying in a science high school would secure my future, which, predictably, it should.

I Love the City

I have a lot of crazy life goals. I am one of those pathetic people who are innately idealistic (but are constantly  bombarded with reasons to be pragmatic) so I have a growing list of careers I want to be associated with: writer, doctor, filmographer, musician, illustrator, pastry chef, owner of a strip club, and all other occupations that would elicit a gasp when mentioned. I am delusional to the point of thinking that I have many, many life skills.

In reference to Sylvia Plath's confessional whines, though, I am not as talented as I make myself out to be; neither do I have enough time to fulfill all of the jobs I listed. So in my grief, I content myself with idolizing genuinely talented people, like Pepe Diokno.

Pepe Diokno is a Filipino filmmaker who was behind the 2009 film Engkwentro, which won him three international and one national award. He is currently making Above the Clouds, due in cinemas this year.

I have always lived in the city. When I was younger, I labeled myself as "nature-lover" in those little "autograph books" that were the fad. Not Facebook profiles, but autograph books. And now I scoff every time I remember that because while I do appreciate the greenness of nature, I have never really enjoyed stepping on anything that isn't concrete.

Between "Sometimes" and "Mostly"

Let me start the year (in this sense I still feel like 2012 has just ended) by recounting the shameless things I have done while trudging my way through college.

I have mentioned before an organization I joined in during my freshman year. I auditioned out of impulse - some of the members were upperclassmen in my high school, and some are the first people I became friends with in college, so I thought I would somehow be "safe" there. It was a time when I thought I should be doing something different, that my daily routine should not be limited to a series of handling chemicals and measuring the volumes thereof.

Productivity

This is the only way we can close down: two milliliters of black ink slowly pouring out from the tip of a ball-point pen, unto a previously empty sheet of paper. The emptiness is eaten up by the densest existence, of the wholeness of a person itching to be acknowledged; nobody can understand. Not now. Would we want this - this compulsion of the world to expand? Not now. There is too much to take in and we cannot keep up. But this is indulgence. We are too selfish. Only our troubles are important, only our indecencies "beautiful." Why should we be so seduced by immorality? Everything is a contradiction. We want what damages us. So we think only words can help us (or some Scotch.) We write on and on but there really isn't anything to write about - one of these days a friend might utter a scorching statement against our way of living, and we'd get mad, and we'd throw that glass of Scotch on his face, and we'd storm out. Outside, someone snatches our wallets, but we'd reach into our coats to find a pen and this piece of paper, and we'd head back into that building and start writing.

I Wanna Go Surfin'

Or studying. Basically it's the same thing when you're swimming in schoolwork.

This semester has been unforgivable - partially because I have been prioritizing org work (is it my fault my majors are boring?) and, I don't know, taking exams feeling like Santa during summer. As much as I have enjoyed my RGEP classes, I don't think I will be regretting "graduating" from my majors; assuming I pass them, that is.

Our finals week is next week. If you see a waif running around from room to room next Monday, you may assume it is me. (We're doing a lot of assuming in this post.) Four of my exams are to be taken this Monday; I don't know what's worse - the fact that that day will probably be my last as an academic or my first as a breathing corpse. I believe in euthanasia, though.

So here is a picture of my and my roommate's tortoise, Cumin:

How have your semesters been?

People-pleasing.

Sometimes I just fail to grasp the normal human being’s psyche. I mean, what do they want from me?! All of you who agree that members of the Homo sapiens species are platonically hard to decipher, raise your hands. Wow, thanks. These mental monologues are pretty tiring.

Some kind of Introduction

I'm not exactly comfortable with creating blog posts about certain things involving me (or other dimwit stuff I'll be writing about that still involves me) without you knowing who I am and what I do, or how I tend to act around cute Chinese kids.

- I love smoothies, especially when they're overflowing with the creamy goodness they're supposed to have (smoothie-making people don't pay much attention to flavor these days). Strawberries are my favorite, so please don't get jippity-yappy when you see me ordering Pink Flirt at Crammer's.

- I'm asthmatic. Oh, dang, YES I AM. I've always fancied running around the school campus' oval field but I end up losing my ability to breathe afterward. We had track and field during second year and we did 400-m dashes. I started off first-- I love being ahead (haha)-- but finished last because I had to stop for a massive intake of oxygen.

- I play soccer. It's ironic, yeah, and to think I'm not even an official sportswoman.

- I sketch, I draw, I paint...and I Photoshop (Webster should register "Photoshop" as a verb). I love art. It keeps me company.

- I AM A BOOKWORM. I read almost anything.

- And I am an audiophile. You'd say I have strange taste in music, but hey, I appreciate a wide range of melodies. I love Japan's Naitomea and Yui Yoshioka. I swoon whenever I listen to Kyuhyun's and Yesung's voices. I adore Paramore. I think Lady Gaga's music is epic.

- Oh, anti-Super Junior women (I understand the plight of guys when it comes to this), you're missing out on the hormone rage. I was a lost individual myself, but my distorted mindset shifted somehow a few months ago. Now I'm basically a sucker for them. You just have to love their strange antics...and Kim Kibum's perfect set of teeth.

- Chinese kids? Yeah. I think they're adorable, like pandas. (Remember that Oreo Sippy Cup commercial?) I might have a thing for PRC. Er, I don't know.

- I...kind of suck at Physics. My dad must be disappointed. Haha.

- I'm religious; or at least, I try to be. I keep my record of not having missed Mass since February...even though I haven't confessed since last year.

- I cry...a lot. Especially when I watch fluffy dramas that have good endings. Gahd, what's wrong with me?

- I like recommending...I am the Goddess of Recommendation. I recommend everything to everyone.

This will (hopefully) be the last entry I'll write about myself. (People who know me well should be disagreeing right now.) The whole process is disturbing.
